A crosslinked polymer skin barrier film for moderate to severe atopic dermatitis: A pilot study in adults
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Feb 07, 2020
Bouthillette M, Beccati D, Akthakul A, et al. - Among 10 adults with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD), researchers assessed the potential tolerability and therapeutic benefits of a crosslinked polymer layer (XPL). For this single-center, open-label pilot study, patients applied XPL up to twice daily for 30 days on a selected treatment area. In 8 of 9 individuals, Investigator's Global Assessment scores improved from moderate to severe at baseline to clear to almost clear on day 30. At day 30, pruritus improved from trace to severe itching (baseline) to all patients having trace to no itching. There has been one adverse event of mild exudative dermatitis. Findings suggested that XPL can be an effective adjuvant in AD treatment. A larger study is warranted with a control group.
