A cross sectional survey on health-related quality of life among parents of children with allergic symptoms using the EQ-5D-5L
Journal of Asthma Feb 06, 2019
Hwang TY, et al. - Researchers assessed the HRQOL, using the EQ-5D-5L, among 22,904 parents of children with allergic diseases enrolled in primary schools and daycare centers. Based on the prevalence of allergic symptoms (wheezing, runny or blocked nose, and itchy rash) in children in the past 12 months, the parents were evaluated for the difference in EQ-5D-5L index and EQ-VAS. Taking into account the number of allergic symptoms of their children, the difference in parents’ EQ-5D-5L index and EQ-VAS score was also assessed. Findings revealed remarkably differed HRQOL between parents of children with and without allergic symptoms. In the “pain/discomfort” and “anxiety/depression” dimensions vs the remaining dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L, a considerable difference in proportion of problem reporting was also observed. Overall, lower HRQOL was observed among parents of children with vs without allergic symptoms. For assessing the HRQOL of parents of children with allergic diseases, the utility of the EQ-5D-5L instrument was suggested.
