A cross-sectional study on factors associated with poor work outcomes in patients with axial spondyloarthritis in Singapore
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Oct 09, 2019
Goh Y, et al. - Consecutive adult individuals ≥ 21 years meeting Assessment in Spondyloarthritis International Society (ASAS) 2009 criteria for axSpA were enrolled in a cross-sectional study done in two tertiary centers in Singapore in order to recognize factors correlated with poor work productivity in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) in Singapore. A total of 156 individuals with axSpA were involved. Absenteeism was related to disease duration and EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D). Presenteeism had a correlation with Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) ≥ 4, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) and EQ-5D. BASFI and EQ-5D were related to work productivity loss. Activity impairment was correlated with age, BASDAI ≥ 4, BASFI, and EQ-5D. Hence, in patients with axSpA in Singapore, active disease, decreased physical function and poorer quality of life were concluded to be correlated with diminished work productivity. Moreover, in individuals with axSpA, addressing these factors could potentially enhance work productivity.
