A cost-utility analysis comparing CT surveillance, PET-CT surveillance, and planned postradiation neck dissection for advanced nodal HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer
Cancer Jun 05, 2021
Fu TS, Scheffler P, Forner D, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to compare the long-term cost-utility of computed tomography (CT) surveillance, PET- CT– guided surveillance, and planned postradiation neck dissection (PRND) for the management of advanced nodal HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer, as well as to assess the cost-effectiveness of a novel PET- CT approach with 6- month repeat PET- CT for initial equivocal responders. Image-guided surveillance, such as PET-CT and CT, are more cost-effective than PRND. When compared with standard PET-CT surveillance, the novel PET-CT approach with repeat PET for equivocal responders was the dominant strategy, yielding both higher benefits and lower costs.
