A comprehensive meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing drug-eluting stents with bare-metal stents in saphenous vein graft interventions
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Aug 03, 2018
Shah R, et al. - Researchers used the largest sample size to date and performed an updated comprehensive meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing drug-eluting stents (DESs) vs bare-metal stents (BMSs) for saphenous vein graft (SVG) interventions. They analyzed data from six RCTs involving 1,582 patients. The outcomes of interest included target vessel revascularization (TVR), major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), myocardial infarction (MI), stent thrombosis, all-cause mortality, and cardiac mortality. They found that DESs vs BMSs showed lower MACE rate when used for SVG intervention. This impact was driven mainly by decreased non-MI-related TVR. The two stents did not differ in terms of rates of MI, all-cause mortality, cardiac mortality, and stent thrombosis.
