A comprehensive analysis of mortality-related health metrics associated with mental disorders: A nationwide, register-based cohort study
The Lancet Nov 12, 2019
Plana-Ripoll O, Pedersen CB, Agerbo E, et al. – Via performing a population-based cohort study involving all individuals aged < 95 years who lived in Denmark at some point between January 1, 1995, and December 31, 2015 (n = 7,369,926), experts compiled a comprehensive analysis of mortality-related health metrics related to mental disorders, including sex- and age-specific mortality rate ratios (MRRs) and life-years lost (LYLs)—a measure that considers the age of onset of the disorder. Mental disorders were found to be related to premature mortality. A comprehensive analysis of mortality through various types of disorders, showing both MRRs and premature mortality on the basis of LYLs, exhibited via age, sex, and cause of death was performed. By providing accurate estimates of premature mortality, formerly underappreciated characteristics associated with competing risks and particular causes of death were demonstrated.
