A comparison of two techniques for induction of anaesthesia with target-controlled infusion of propofol
Anaesthesia Jul 04, 2018
Mu JJ, et al. - Researchers performed a prospective, randomised, controlled trial to compare 2 techniques for induction of anaesthesia with target-controlled infusion of propofol in terms of their difference between effect-site concentration at loss of consciousness and at recovery of consciousness. The two techniques for induction of anaesthesia with target-controlled infusion of propofol were titration method (stepwise increases in effect-site concentration until the patient loses consciousness) and standard method (setting a high effect-site concentration target and observing the calculated effect-site concentration at loss of consciousness). The modified Marsh pharmacokinetic model demonstrated that the titration method allowed closer matching of propofol concentration to depth of anaesthesia than the standard method.
