A comparison of the imaging features of pleomorphic and classical invasive lobular carcinoma
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment Oct 21, 2018
Yeap PM, et al. - Whether pleomorphic invasive lobular carcinoma (pILC) and classical ILC (cILC) have different appearances on conventional imaging was investigated in this single-center retrospective review. Participants were 150 consecutive patients with histopathologically confirmed ILC (38 pILC; 112 cILC). In both groups, mammographic and sonographic findings were evaluated and compared. Mammographic findings in pILC vs cILC, demonstrated skin or trabecular thickening and microcalcification more commonly. In addition, mixed echogenicity, skin thickening, subcutaneous or parenchymal edema, echogenic surrounding fat, and posterior acoustic enhancement were more frequently shown by pILC vs cILC on ultrasound. Overall, imaging features between pILC and cILC differed and reflected the more aggressive nature of pILC.
