A comparison of duplex ultrasound findings 2 years after cyanoacrylate embolization vs endovenous laser ablation of the great saphenous vein
Journal of Vascular Surgery Aug 26, 2018
McGuinness B, et al. - Researchers compared duplex ultrasound imaging findings of the great saphenous vein (GSV) following cyanoacrylate embolization (CE) vs endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). Similar anatomic success was seen between the two procedures. However, postoperative findings on duplex ultrasound varied notably. The vein was smaller and often undetectable months after closure, as observed following EVLA. An immediate reduction in vein diameter was observed in the CE group; which was followed by dilatation, possibly attributed to resolved vasospasm. During the following months, it declined, however, this decline was mild and slower than anticipated. This finding showed correlation to results in experimental models and other clinical settings.
