A comparison of clinical characteristics and outcomes of ventilator-associated pneumonias among burn patients by diagnostic criteria set
Shock Dec 15, 2017
Younan D, et al. - The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) replaced its old definition for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) with ventilator-associated events (VAEs) in 2013. The prime focus of this investigation was to compare the two definitions of VAP with respect to clinical characteristics and outcomes in burn patients. In severely burn patients, a weak agreement between the two definitions of VAP was reported. However, longer ventilator days, intensive care unit, and hospital stays were documented for those who met both VAP definitions.
