A comparison of adrenalectomy and eplerenone on vascular function in patients with aldosterone-producing adenoma
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Sep 24, 2020
Kishimoto S, Oki K, Maruhashi T, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for comparing the impacts of adrenalectomy and treatment with eplerenone on vascular function in patients with aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA). In 23 patients with APA, flow-mediated vasodilation, as an endothelium-dependent vasodilation index and nitroglycerine-induced vasodilation, as an endothelium-independent vasodilation index were assessed to evaluate vascular function before and after a 3-month treatment with eplerenone and after 3 months of adrenalectomy. Adrenalectomy, but not eplerenone therapy, enhanced vascular function in APA patients. Adrenalectomy could be more effective at reducing the occurrence of potential cardiovascular incidents in APA patients than treatment with eplerenone.
