A comparison between ProSeal laryngeal mask airway and Air-Q Blocker in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology Sep 08, 2019
Gupta R, et al. - Among adults (n = 88) undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia, researchers compared Air-Q Blocker (AQB) against ProSeal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA). For AQB and PLMA, the oropharyngeal seal pressures were 31.5 ± 2.41 and 29.41 ± 2.14 cm H2O, respectively. With AQB, longer insertion time was reported in comparison with PLMA, 25.59 ± 5.71 and 18.66 ± 3.15 seconds, respectively. With PLMA vs AQB, ease and success rate of insertion was better. Overall, the efficacy of PLMA and AQB in maintaining ventilation and oxygenation during laparoscopic surgery was found to be similar. However, a limiting factor was proper positioning and functioning of the blocker tube of AQB.
