A comparison between inhalational (Desflurane) and total intravenous anaesthesia (Propofol and dexmedetomidine) in improving postoperative recovery for morbidly obese patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: A double-blinded randomised controlled trial
Journal of Clinical Anesthesia Mar 13, 2018
Elbakry AE, et al. - Herein, the use of the inhalation anaesthesia technique using desflurane was compared with the total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) technique, using propofol and dexmedetomidine in morbidly obese patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. For this patient population, TIVA using propofol and dexmedetomidine was shown to be a better anaesthetic regimen than inhalation anaesthesia using desflurane. Notably, better postoperative recovery with fewer postoperative side effects and analgesic requirements were provided by the TIVA technique.
