A comparative study between minimally invasive spine surgery and traditional open surgery for patients with spinal metastasis
Spine Dec 16, 2020
Zhu X, Lu J, Xu H, et al. - A retrospective study was conducted to correlate the perioperative outcomes of minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) and traditional open surgery (TOS) for thoracolumbar spine metastasis. Between January 2017 and December 2019, clinical data were retrospectively examined from 154 consecutive patients registered in the institute who had undergone separation surgery for spinal metastases (forty-nine patients received MISS and 105 patients had TOS). Researchers obtained and compared demographic and perioperative data between the two approaches. As per the findings, MISS was found to be a safe and effective technique that could be considered the optimal treatment for individuals with spinal metastasis and myelopathy and therefore is an excellent alternative in managing thoracolumbar spine metastasis.
