A comparative health utility value analysis of outcomes for patients following septorhinoplasty with previous nasal surgery
JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery Sep 26, 2019
Gadkaree SK, et al. - Patients who underwent primary septorhinoplasty were compared with those who underwent revision septorhinoplasty regarding their improvements in health utility values (HUVs) following surgery. In this cohort analysis, researchers included 185 patients who underwent prior nasal surgery (RNS) before functional rhinoplasty and 278 patients who underwent primary septorhinoplasty. The RNS cohort displayed lower HUVs throughout the first year postoperatively; however, following 6 months, no significant difference was evident between the 2 cohorts on statistical analysis. Findings support a valid predictive value of Euroqol 5-dimension questionnaire-derived HUVs for outcomes in all patients who undergo septorhinoplasty. Although both cohorts showed significant improvement in outcomes, they recommend considering previous surgical history while performing cost-utility analysis on the benefits of functional rhinoplasty.
