Injury Jun 04, 2020
Yan Y, Zhu Y, Lian X, et al. - Via performing a retrospective study of patients with traumatic fractures of the limbs, pelvis and spine treated from January 2017 to December 2017, researcher compared the epidemiological characteristics of traumatic fractures between rural and urban areas. They included 10,046 patients in this study (patients from rural areas: 4,440; 3,062 males and 1,378 females and patients from rural areas: 5,606; 3,374 males and 2,232 females). Patients with traumatic fractures in rural and urban areas differed somewhat in terms of issues of age distribution, injury mechanism, injured body site and season. Patients from rural areas with high risk of fractures were younger than those from urban areas. In rural and urban areas, fractures more frequently occur in the wrist and hips, respectively. Findings emphasize prevention of low-energy-induced osteoporotic fractures as very critical for both rural and urban populations. It remains critical to reduce the risk of traffic accident to prevent multiple injuries.
