A comparative analysis of errors in inhaler technique among COPD vs asthma patients
International Journal of COPD Sep 30, 2018
Ocakli B, et al. - Researchers compared errors in inhaler technique in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) vs those with asthma, and examined the association of poor inhaler technique with patient demographics and clinical variables. They analyzed data from 509 adults with COPD (n=328) or asthma (n=181) who were currently using an inhaler device. Findings revealed that the two groups had similar incidence of errors in inhaler technique in terms of inhalation maneuvers and device handling. Errors in certain device-handling maneuvers, particularly with metered dose inhalers, were more prevalent among patients with asthma vs patients with COPD, and were associated with female sex as well as shorter durations of disease and inhaler therapy.
