A clinical scoring system for pediatric hand-foot-mouth disease
BMC Infectious Diseases Aug 05, 2021
Huang H, Deng L, Jia L, et al. - For the diagnosis of typical and atypical hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD), an objective scoring system was established using measures accessible through routine clinical encounters.
Among 1,435 pediatric patients under the age of 3 years who presented with acute rash illness and underwent enterovirus nucleic acid detection, the HFMD group comprised 1,094 patients or non-HFMD group comprised 341 patients.
The scoring system included seven clinical variables (age, exposure history, and rash density at specific regions of the body).
A score of seven or greater was suggestive of a clinical diagnosis of HFMD.
An AUC of 0.76 was retrieved using the test set with a sensitivity of 0.76 and a specificity of 0.62 .
