A case-control study of the association of the polymorphisms of MTHFR and APOE with risk factors and the severity of coronary artery disease
Cardiology Jun 08, 2019
Long Y, et al. - Including a Chinese Han population, researchers performed this case-control study to further investigate the link between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in MTHFR and APOE and CAD risk, with a special focus on the severity of CAD and the profile of serum lipids. They recruited 1,207 cases of consecutive CAD-suspected inpatients. Post-exclusion, a final analysis was performed including 406 CAD cases and 231 non-CAD controls. Coronary angiography had been done on all participants. Using the Gensini scores, 2 cardiologists assessed CAD severity. In this Chinese Han population, a link was found between the SNP site of MTHFR C667T and CAD risk. CAD severity may be increased by the genotypes of TT in MTHFR C667T and ε4+in APOE, and possible implication of higher Hcy, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and ApoE levels in this pathogenic process was also suggested.
