A case-control study of sleep disturbances in pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder
Journal of Anxiety Disorders Mar 07, 2018
Jaspers-Fayer F, et al. - Researchers undertook this case-control study of sleep disturbances, including delayed sleep phase disorder and disorders of sleep initiation and maintenance, in pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). As per findings, the parents of these children seemed successfully controlling bedtimes, preventing circadian rhythm system disruptions. However, OCD status does adversely impact the perisleep arousal system. Results suggest that sleep problems could be best managed through direct treatment of OCD symptoms. They thus recommended screening all pediatric OCD patients for sleep disturbances to inform treatment plan development.
