A case-control evaluation of fungiform papillae density in burning mouth syndrome

Naud JM, et al. – This case–control study was performed to analyze fungiform papillae density, taste sensitivity, and mechanical pain sensitivity in patients with burning mouth syndrome. The evaluation revealed increased pain and taste perception on the anterior tongue, in these patients. Moreover, in these subjects, the lack of correlation between left and right fungiform papillae density might be an indication of asymmetrical lingual innervation.
