A case–control study on dietary calcium intake and risk of glioma
European Journal of Cancer Prevention Jun 21, 2021
Fallah Yekta M, Soltani S, Shayanfar M, et al. - In this hospital-based case-control study, researchers sought to determine the association between dietary calcium intake and the risk of glioma in Iranian adults. The sample consisted of 128 newly diagnosed cases of glioma and 256 age- and sex-matched controls. Patients with pathologically proven glioma (and no other cancers) were chosen. A validated 126-item food-frequency questionnaire was used to collect dietary intakes from study participants. Findings suggested an association of higher dietary intake of calcium with younger age, long duration of cell phone use, and frequent canned foods intake. Participants with the highest dietary calcium intake had an 84% lower risk of glioma than those with the lowest intake after accounting for age, gender, and energy intake. An inverse protective association was found between high dietary calcium intake and chances of glioma.
