A biomarker of collagen type I degradation is associated with cardiovascular events and mortality in patients with atherosclerosis
Journal of Internal Medicine Dec 16, 2018
Nielsen SH, et al. - Researchers analyzed serum from 787 cases who underwent a carotid endarterectomy and measured circulating levels of C1M to evaluate if matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-mediated Collagen type I (COL1) biomarker, C1M, was correlated with cardiovascular events, cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality with known atherosclerosis by using Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox regression analysis. They observed 21.4% of cases suffered from nonfatal cardiovascular events during the follow-up period and 39 subjects died from cardiovascular diseases. High levels of C1M predicting cardiovascular events, cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality were concluded.
