A 5-year history of laparoscopic gastric band removals: An analysis of complications and associated comorbidities
Obesity Surgery Jan 24, 2019
Jaber J, et al. - In this retrospective exploratory study, researchers sought to determine the factors contributing to laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB) removals among adults > 18 years of age. Eighty-five bands were removed (11.8% males, 88.2% females). Findings support the current literature suggesting inefficacy of LAGB as long-term surgical intervention for obesity. They noted increased rates of removal among patients with > 2 comorbidities. The primary reason cited for LAGB removal was dysphagia. They found postoperative follow-up for LAGB removal patients as significantly challenging.
