A 3-day low-fibre diet does not improve colonoscopy preparation results compared with a 1-day diet: A randomized, single-blind, controlled trial
United European Gastroenterology Journal Nov 06, 2019
Taveira F, Areia M, Elvas L, et al. - In this randomized, single-blind, controlled trial, researchers compared the influence of a 3-day vs a 1-day low-fibre diet on bowel preparation quality, patient tolerability and adherence. They randomized outpatients scheduled for total colonoscopy in two groups, 3-day vs 1-day low-fibre diet, performing a 4-litre polyethylene glycol split-dose. In total, 412 individuals were randomized (206 per group). Between groups, bowel preparation quality was comparable. The data presented in this work showed a 3-day low-fibre diet, particularly when performing split-dose, did not bring advantages over the recommended 1-day diet in bowel preparation results. There were no variations in the difficulty of getting the diet, readiness to repeat the diet, adverse events, and findings of intr-colonoscopy.
