A 26-week, randomized trial of insulin detemir vs NPH insulin in children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes (iDEAt2)
European Journal of Pediatrics Jul 19, 2018
Wheeler MD, et al. - In children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes (T2D), the researchers compared the efficacy and safety of insulin detemir vs neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin, both in combination with metformin and lifestyle intervention. Study participants were patients (n = 42) aged 10–17 years diagnosed with T2D already receiving metformin ± other oral antidiabetic drugs ± basal insulin. In children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes, no safety issues with insulin detemir or neutral protamine Hagedorn insulin were observed. No efficacy conclusions could be drawn because of the low number of patients enrolled in this investigation.
