Β-cell function and clinical outcome in nondiabetic patients with acute ischemic stroke
Stroke May 28, 2021
Kiyohara T, Matsuo R, Hata J, et al. - Researchers sought to determine if β-cell function is related to clinical results following acute ischemic stroke and if so, if insulin resistance impacts this link in a prospective analysis of patients experiencing acute stroke. For 3 months, a follow-up was conducted in 3,590 nondiabetic patients with acute ischemic stroke (mean age, 71 years). Employing the homeostasis model assessment for β-cell function, evaluation of β-Cell function was done. Findings revealed a significant link of β-cell dysfunction with poor short-term clinical results independently of insulin resistance among nondiabetic patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke.
