30-Year survival after cardiac surgery for patients with turner syndrome
The Journal of Pediatrics Aug 28, 2021
Alam S, Claxton JNS, Mortillo M, et al. - Comparison of survival of patients with Turner Syndrome and non-syndromic patients with similar left heart obstructive lesions (LHOLs) was performed.
From the Pediatric Cardiac Care Consortium (PCCC), a US-based registry of CHS, 179 patients with TS operated for LHOL were identified: 161 with two-ventricle lesions (coarctation n = 149, aortic stenosis n = 12) and 18 with hypoplastic left heart (HLH) variants.
Patients with TS and non-syndromic comparators with operated two-ventricle left heart obstructive lesions (LHOLs) were similar in terms of 30-year transplant-free survival; no excess congenital heart disease (CHD) risk was evident in those with TS.
CVD morbidity, however, was still higher among patients with TS, emphasizing the relevance of lifelong comorbidity surveillance in this population.
