24-hour ambulatory blood pressure after adenotonsillectomy in childhood sleep apnea

The Journal of Pediatrics May 25, 2018

Hsu WC, et al. - The current study examined the effects of adenotonsillectomy (T&A) on ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) in childhood obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Children aged 4-16 years with symptoms and polysomnography-diagnosed OSA (apnea–hypopnea index [AHI] >1) underwent T&A from 2012 to 2017. Before and at 3 months after surgery, PSG (polysomnography) studies and 24-hour ABP monitoring were performed. This study was conducted on one hundred fifty-nine children. It was observed in the findings that the 24-hour ABP change after T&A was small in children with OSA. Findings revealed that there was significant blood pressure (BP) improvement after T&A surgery among children with preoperative hypertension.
