10-year recurrence rates for breast cancer subtypes in the Netherlands: A large population-based study
International Journal of Cancer Nov 22, 2018
van Maaren MC, et al. - Researchers performed this study on all operated women diagnosed with invasive non-metastatic breast cancer in 2005 in the Netherlands, to determine for the first time the association between breast cancer subtypes and 10-year recurrence rates and mortality in the Netherlands. Luminal A, luminal B, HER2 positive and triple negative were the subtype categories based on ER, PR, HER2 status and grade. They used multivariable Cox regression to calculate adjusted 10-year overall (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Findings demonstrated the importance of breast cancer subtypes as predictors for 10-year recurrence rates in the Netherlands. Based on the observations, patient-tailored treatment and individualised follow-up could be assisted by the knowledge on recurrence and survival rates according to these different subtypes, combined with other prognostic factors.
