Although nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) are widely used to treat acute and chronic pain caused by inflammation, the class's gastrointestinal (GI), cardiovascular (CV), and renal hazards necessitate cautious patient selection.
Recently, a worldwide panel of experts issued practice advice in the Journal of Pain Research that reviews current research and offers primary care physicians updated guidelines on the use of NSAIDs for pain, with an emphasis on cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and renal safety.
