We bring to you the third and final article based on the findings of the online survey of Indian doctors which we had conducted to understand how satisfied and happy they feel professionally.

Key Findings

 

Of the doctors surveyed, more than 75% reported feeling unsafe at work at least on some days. The percentage of younger doctors (<40 y) who reported feeling unsafe [84%] was more than senior doctors surveyed who felt this way (68%). The findings were not different between metropolitan and non-metropolitan doctors.

 

 

 

Asked about measures to fix the security concern, 84% of the doctors believed that the government should change the law to increase the safety of the doctors. About two-third of the surveyed doctors also felt that improving the security of the clinic/hospitals might help. Close to 60% of the doctors stressed the importance of improving their own communication skill when dealing with patients and relatives, which can be considered a healthy sign.

 

 

 

One of the startling revelations of the survey was that more than half of the doctors (55%) admitted that they had felt like quitting the profession due to the stress at some stage. While this highlights how stressful the job can sometimes be, the data should be seen together with the fact that 67% of Doctors still report feeling happy at work [see article 2 for more details]

 

 

 

 

58% Doctors felt that improving the work-life balance and regulating work hours could be a potential solution to make their work more satisfying, apart from better pay and efficient working environments.
