President Donald J. Trump on March 23 signed a $1.3 trillion spending bill that will keep the government running through Sept. 30 and includes $4 billion in funding for the nation's opioid crisis.

The $4 billion in opioids funding includes $1 billion for grants to states and Indian tribes to address the opioid epidemic; $476 million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support increased opioid overdose surveillance and prevention activities at the national, state, and local level; and $500 million for National Institutes of Health research on opioid addiction. There is also $130 million for the Rural Communities Opioid Response program.

The bill also allocates more than $447 million in funding for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, an increase of $22 million from 2018; and $19 million for the CDC Division of Oral Health.
