The American Heart Association Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine—dedicated exclusively to advancing precision medicine in cardiovascular care—today announced the second round of new grant opportunities for the scientific community in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The 2-year competitive grants collectively total $2.2 million, and are focused on advancing break throughs in cardiovascular and stroke science by opening up data and using artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.

Similar to the first round of grants, awardees will receive AWS computational cloud credits to leverage the power of cloud computing, open data, and new artificial intelligence and machine learning tools available through the American Heart Association Precision Medicine Platform™.

The Precision Medicine Platform, powered by AWS, is quickly becoming a central hub to the cardiovascular and stroke community providing access to vast and diverse datasets, and cloud-based workspaces that enable state-of-the-art high performance computing, analytics, and collaboration.

According to Dr. Jennifer Hall, Chief, Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine, “It is our hope that the grants generate excitement and ignite breakthroughs in cardiovascular and stroke science through opening up diverse data and using emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Training the next generation of scientists to apply these innovations to their research will be critical to changing the way we think about solving problems in the next 100 years.”
